What is translation? It is a bridge to connect 2 or more different cultures. Language is based on a culture. If you don't understand the culture, you can only brush the surface of a language. Machine translation is misued worldwidely, it is nice to have a chat with somone in foregin country using it, but it cannot be used for business. The technology is not there yet. Only human experience can deliver a proper and high quality translation.

What I’ve Got Going On
R M Voice Over just finished art guidance for The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts
It was a 2 hour total voice guidance for famous paintings and statues of European art. Challenging but rewarding. The translation was including unfamiliar terms which even Japanese people wouldn't use regularly, so finding the correct pronunciation and reading them smoothly to be understood was not an easy task. I will visit there someday to hear my voice!
Quality Check of Tranlastion
Being able to speak another language means that you also understand the culture and daily life of the country. This is not emphasized in translation world - because if you do, then very limited people can provide such deep understanding in a language. But think about it - if you don't know what Thanksgivings Day means, then the translator can only translate the words which were given. If the person does not understand it is a national holiday in US and people usually travel coming home or visiting friends, the completed translation might include (or miss) what it really meant. When I read translated scripts for voice recording, I encounter lots of unmeaning Japanese phrases, whether completely meaningless or totally misunderstood of the original material. Translation companies are trying hard to survive in the competitive market, but if they are not willing to keep the certain quality and only seeking cheaper translators, they will end up losing their business. With all those automated translation websites/software (which are almost useless, if you are a linguist and used them, then you know what I mean here) there are people who use those systems and pretending like they are translators. Translators are the bridge between different languages and cultures, they are entitled to get paid fair compensation towards their knowledge and experience. I personally think that people who never visited nor lived in a country where using the targeted language should be working with an experienced, so they can learn what they are missing and where they make mistakes.
